The UK's most south westerly town
The UK's most south westerly town, St Just is close to
St. Ives on
The Land's End Peninsula (The Penwith Peninsula). To the east are
Mousehole,
Penzance and
Newlyn. To the south are
Sennen,
Land's End and
Porthcurno. Inland, on the windswept moors are granite outcrops and prehistoric sites.
Lined with pubs, hotels and shops, St Just's spacious centre is by
St Just in Penwith Church. The church has a fascinating history so after a pint or fish and chips, we'd recommend a visit.
The small town is a great base from which to explore some of the sites of the
Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. We'd recommend
Botallack Mine The Crowns Engine Houses and
Levant Mine and Beam Engine. Try
Geevor Tin Mine, too.
South West Coast Path
The best way, in our opinion, to explore theses UNESCO World Heritage Sites is on the
South West Coast Path. Walk to
Cape Cornwall. From there, head north to
Botallack Mine The Crowns Engine Houses (by
Botallack) or south to the gorgeous
Whitesand Bay and
Sennen Cove Beach. Further along the coast is
Land's End,
England's most westerly point.
Beaches
As you would expect, there are some cracking beaches in the area. Visit
Gwenver Beach and
Sennen Cove Beach,
Portheras Cove and
Porthcurno Beach. To the north east, try the beaches of
St Ives Bay. We'd recommend
Gwithian Beach and
Carbis Bay Beach,
St Ives Harbour & Beach and
Hayle Beach.
To the east, there's a vast arc of sand lining
Mount's Bay.
Local attractions
In addition to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and glorious beaches of
The Land's End Peninsula (The Penwith Peninsula), visit
Minack Theatre,
Land's End's (curious) visitor attraction,
Mousehole Harbour and
Tate St Ives. A trip to
St Michael's Mount is a must.
Day trips
St Just is on
The Land's End Peninsula (The Penwith Peninsula). This is the most south westerly area of
Cornwall. Head east to explore
Lizard Point on The Lizard Peninsula. We'd also suggest day trips to
Helford and the estuary there as well as the
Falmouth/
St. Mawes area.
To the north east, the massive Atlantic
Perran Beach is superb as are the beaches around
Newquay. Try the
Camel Estuary area as well.
