Stunning coast and UNESCO history
A popular holiday destination on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall, St Agnes is close to many extraordinary stretches of coastline and internationally important historical sites.

At high tide, the wide stretch of sand running from Chapel Porth Beach down to Porth Towan is a joy. If you're into walking, we'd recommend following the South West Coast Path along the cliff top between these beaches and then walking back across the sand to where you began. The views are amazing. Refer to the Ordnance Survey 104 'Redruth & St Agnes/Camborne & Perranporth' map for detail. We've walked the area on numerous occasions from the car parks at Chapel Porth Beach and Porth Towan. It's nice to start from the car parking area just east of Wheal Coates (Tin Mine) as well. The latter provides those amazing views of the sand when the tide's out.

On the cliff to the north of Chapel Porth Beach you'll see the famous Wheal Coates (Tin Mine) and Towanroath Engine House. St Agnes was the centre of a mining district. Today, it's part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. This rich history is very much in evidence in the village itself. As you walk around, you'll see engine houses and the remains of this once thriving industry.

Visit Trevaunance Cove and Trevellas Porth Beach, St Agnes Museum and St Agnes Church. There are plenty of pubs and cafes in which to eat and drink. To walk off the calories, head up St Agnes Beacon or walk the South West Coat Path around St Agnes Head. On a clear day, you'll see St. Ives to the south west and Penhale Point and Gull Rocks to the north east.

The local area
If you have time, head north east to Perran Beach. We think it's one of Cornwall's Top 10 Beaches. Whilst you are there, explore Penhale Sands.

To the south west, visit St Ives Bay and St. Ives. On a sunny day, this arc of coastline is very special.

Further afield
To the south west of St. Ives is The Land's End Peninsula (The Penwith Peninsula). Home to some splendid beaches and attractions, we'd recommend visiting the Levant Mine and Beam Engine and Botallack Mine The Crowns Engine Houses, Land's End and Minack Theatre. For beaches, try Sennen Cove Beach and Porthcurno Beach. Explore Mousehole Harbour and St Michael's Mount as well.

North east of St Agnes, visit Padstow and the Camel Estuary. To the east, try The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey Harbour, Charlestown Harbour and The Eden Project. Cornwall's a small place so make the most of it.
