East Cornwall fishing village
A popular and beautiful Cornish coastal village protected from the English Channel by a massive harbour wall. When the tide's out, in the shadow of the wall, visit Polperro Beach and its surrounding cliffs. Try a boat trip, too.

Walk Polperro's narrow lanes and explore its pretty buildings, visit the Polperro Heritage Museum and eat in one of its many pubs and restaurants. Given the village's popularity, there are plenty of shops aimed at the leisure visitor.

At the northern end of Polperro, you'll find an enormous car park. Take a horse bus to the centre of the village. Clearly, the car park gives you an idea of Polperro's popularity so, if possible, we'd suggest you visit outside the high summer months (July and August). Despite the short days, we always recommend winter breaks to the coast. On sunny days, the light is superb for views and Cornwall's many pubs and restaurants are great to retreat to when the sun sets.

Local attractions
The most obvious local attraction is the South West Coast Path. Walk a stretch of it.

Polruan, Fowey and River Fowey and Estuary are to the west. Looe is to the east.

The Eden Project and the National Trust's Lanhydrock House and Gardens are within an easy drive.

Day trips
We'd recommend day trips to the spectacular Whitsand Bay and, to its north, the National Trust's Antony House.

The Tamar Valley AONB is exceptional and to Polperro's north east. Beyond that is Dartmoor National Park. Plymouth is a fine city with an internationally important maritime history.

Slightly further away, to the north west, try the Camel Estuary. Visit Newquay, too.
