Food, drink and exquisite landscape in which to walk them off. Includes a stunning walled harbour and exceptional views of the Camel Estuary.

Padstow, a small fishing port, is located on the west bank of the Camel Estuary, part of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Across the water is Rock. There's some serious wealth around here but it's easy to see why it's such a popular place to live and visit. The beaches, for example, are exceptional: Rock Beach, Harbour and Hawker's Cove Beach, Gun Point and St George's Cove and Daymer Bay.

The South West Coast Path passes through Padstow on its way to Stepper Point or across the water to Rock and then up to Pentire Point. You can hire bikes and head off on the The Camel Trail.

People tend to associate Padstow with chef Rick Stein but the town's heaving with high quality places to eat and drink. On sunny days, the harbour area gets packed out. There's ample parking space provided but owing to its popularity it can sometimes be difficult to find a spot.

We've researched this area in every season and don't discount visiting in the less fashionable winter months. On a bright day, the area is hard to beat.
