Holiday hotspot
One of Cornwall's holiday hotspots and, arguably, surf capital of the UK.
For a small town, Newquay feels remarkably big because there's so much to do and because so many people visit. The main attractions are its beaches and the sea. Newquay Fistral Beach is an 'international surfing centre' and Newquay Towan Beach one of many by Newquay town centre.
Newquay harbour and bay
Newquay harbour is exceptional even by the standards of Cornwall. Its beach backs on to vertical cliffs from which there are exquisite views of the town and Newquay Bay. Boat trips are avilable and it's also a great place to watch fishermen at work.
The town is geared for fun so you'll find plenty of pubs and restaurants, bars and tourists. Look out for adventure activities, too. We photographed groups of people 'coasteering' and rock climbing by Newquay Towan Head.
Further afield
A little further afield to the north is the expansive Watergate Beach/Tregurrian Beach and to the south the magnificent Perran Beach. This stretch of the Atlantic coast is first class.
