Stunning coastal town
Arguably East Cornwall's most popular destination, Looe's a stunning coastal town.

Strictly speaking, it's two towns, East and West Looe. Given that PictureTheUK's designed to help people discover places to visit within the UK, we'll treat Looe as a single holiday or weekend break destination.

If you walk to the end of the pier, one of the first things you'll notice on your way is the beach. Beyond that, along the coastline to the east, is the exceptional Whitsand Bay and Rame Head. Explore the coastline here on the South West Coast Path.

The narrow streets behind the beach and pier are lined with shops and places to eat and drink. The Fish Quay provides fine views of Looe Estuary. Take a boat from here out to sea.

Local attractions
There are plenty of beaches in the local area. In addition to East Looe Beach, try Seaton Beach and Long Sands (Whitsand Bay), Freathy Beach and Cawsand Beach.

For history and culture, head for Antony House and Cotehele House and Gardens. Morwellham Quay is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. To the north west of Looe is Lanhydrock House and Gardens.

Fowey is to the west and The Eden Project beyond that.

Day trips
The Tamar Valley AONB and Dartmoor National Park are within an easy drive to the north east. Plymouth is to the east.

Given that Cornwall's a long and thin county, we'd recommend day trips to the north coast. Try Newquay and Padstow, Port Isaac and Boscastle. Visit Tintagel Castle, too.

If you're staying in the Looe area for any period of time, we'd also suggest day trips to Charlestown and Mevagissey.
