Bustling historic Cornwall port looking out across the Fowey Estuary towards Polruan and to the sea beyond. Packed with pubs and restaurants, boats and tourists.
Within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Beauty, the small town follows the shape of the coastline towards St Catherine's Castle. If you're not staying in the town or surrounding area, there's plenty of parking and it's a short walk downhill into Fowey's narrow streets, brighly coloured buildings, wharves and quays. The Town Quay (a hundred yards or so from St Fimbarrus Church) is a great place to eat, drink and people watch. You could also spend a day watching all the boats moving up and down the spectacular estuary. Things to do include: Fowey Museum, the Marine Aquarium, the Daphne du Maurier Literary Centre, St Catherine's Castle and St Fimbarrus Church. Both river cruises and boat trips out to sea are available. Longer trips across St Austell Bay to Mevagissey and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are recommended. The Eden Project is about five miles as the crow flies and the Cornish Alps beyond. [Information provided by picturetheuk] External Links www.visit-fowey.com |
