Twelve areas
The Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is called 'Cornwall' but in fact consists of twelve geographical areas within the county, most, as you’d expect for Cornwall, being on the coast.

To the east, the Cornwall AONB around Rame Head moves into the Tamar Valley AONB and to the north it moves into the North Devon AONB.

Within the the AONB is the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site and some of the finest beaches in the UK.

The areas are:
1. Hartland (Morwenstow and Kilkhampton), to the far north of Cornwall on the border with Devon - including Duckpool Beach and Sandy Mouth Beach.

2. Widemouth to Pentire Point - including Boscastle Harbour, Tintagel Castle and Port Isaac Harbour & Beach.

3. Camel Estuary.

4. Padstow area down to Bedruthan Steps - including Harbour Cove and Hawker's Cove Beach, Mother Ivey's Bay and Booby's Bay.

5. St. Agnes - running just south of Perran Beach down to Chapel Porth Beach and Porth Towan.

6. Portreath to Godrevy - including Portreath Beach, Navax Point and The Knavocks and Godrevy Cove.

7. West Penwith - a vast stretch of coasline running south of St. Ives through some of the most extraordinary sites on the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, through Sennen Cove Beach, Land's End, Minack Theatre to Mousehole.

8. South Coast – another vast stretch of coastline from around St Michael's Mount, past Porthleven Harbour and Port, Kynance Cove, Lizard Point, the Helford Estuary to Falmouth.

9. South Coast, Central – from River Fal and Estuary and St. Mawes up to the area south of St. Austell.

10. South Coast, Eastern – including Fowey and running east towards Looe.

11. Rame Head, to the far east of Cornwall on the border with Devon and just below the Tamar Valley AONB.

12. Bodmin Moor.

Covering such a large geographic area, the landscapes and seascapes are varied from dramatic Atlantic coastline to more tranquil estuaries to exposed moorland.
