Cambridgeshire, Visitor & Tourism Guide

Oliver Cromwell and Henry VIII, the Fens and Ely
Cambridgeshire is home to Cambridge which is home to Cambridge University. The county's known across the world. The University City is exceptional but make sure you explore its surroundings as well when holidaying in the county. There are some cracking attractions here.

In the East of England. Surrounded by the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire. London is to the south

Cambridge University

One half of 'Oxbridge' (for the other, see Oxford). The University has nurtured nearly one hundred Nobel Laureates and over a dozen British Prime Ministers, some of the world's great scientists and many if its finest writers. There have been Kings and Queens, Princes and Presidents, Newton, Darwin, Crick and Watson, Byron, Coleridge, Tennyson and Wordsworth. Impressive.

City and town

If you want to stay in a city, try Cambridge, Peterborough and Ely. For towns, head for St. Ives, Huntingdon, Godmanchester and St. Neots.

Culture and history

Clearly, there's some culture here. Explore The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge or Ely Museum, The Stained Glass Museum or Oliver Cromwell's House. Try also The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

For history, we'd point you in the direction of King's College, Ely Cathedral, Oliver Cromwell's House, Trinity College, The Bridge of Sighs (via the River Cam) and Wimpole Hall.

Nature and outdoors
If you're in search of the wild, visit The Fens, RSPB Nene Washes, RSPB Ouse Washes and WWT Welney.

For exercise or fresh air, try The Fens, River Great Ouse, Ely Park, River Cam, Devil's Dyke (an earthwork, not the one in West Sussex), Gog Magog Downs, Icknield Way and Peckover House & Garden.
