Ben Nevis & Glencoe NSA, Visitor & Tourism Guide

Highest mountain and most famous valley
This National Scenic Area is home to the UK's highest mountain and its most famous valley. Ben Nevis, at 1343m, and Glen Coe, with its Three Sisters, are world famous. Add Buachaille Etive Mr and Glen Etive, Rannoch Moor and Loch Etive and you have an area that competes with the Cuillin of Skye for natural beauty.

Accessible location
To the west and centre of Scotland by the A82 road which runs up from Glasgow. A large National Scenic Area to the north and west of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and south west of the Cairngorms National Park. Edinburghs to the south east, Glasgow south, Inverness north east.

Many visitors pass through this area on their way to the Inner and Outer Hebrides (such as the Isle of Skye or the Western Isles) and National Scenic Areas of north Scotland.

Ben Nevis
The UK's highest mountain is on the doorstep of Fort William and Loch Linnhe and rises above Glen Nevis. Most people use the Olde Bridle Path to summit the mountain and, whilst it's a slog, it's pretty straightforward hiking.

Note that the West Highland Way runs close to Glen Nevis if you're looking for a chunkier trek.

Glen Coe
Glen Coe, or Glencoe, is perhaps the most well photographed glen or valley in the UK. It's absolutely stunning as you drive the A82 to or from Fort William and Ben Nevis. If you have time, hike The Three Sisters. Also take some time to reflect upon the story of the Massacre of Glencoe.

Other attractions
Rannoch Moor is a stunning area crossed by the West Highland railway line and the West Highland Way. To the south of Glen Coe are the exquisite Glen Etive and Loch Etive.

Further afield, visit Eilean Donan Castle on the way to the Isle of Skye or McCaig's Tower before hopping on a boat to discover the Inner and Outer Hebrides.
