North Devon AONB, Visitor Guide
In
South West England within the county of
Devon. One of the county's five AONBs, the others being:
Tamar Valley AONB,
South Devon AONB,
East Devon AONB and the
Blackdown Hills AONB.
The AONB runs along the coast from Welcombe and
Hartland Point past
Westward Ho!,
Woolacombe,
Ilfracombe to Combe Martin on the north coast. To its east is
Exmoor National Park.
Covers a variety of landscapes from the rolling hills and dramatic, rocky coastline of the
The Hartland Peninsula to the sandy dunes of the
UNESCO North Devon Biosphere Reserve to the vast expanses of sand at
Saunton Sands (Beach),
Putsborough Sand (Beach),
Croyde Beach and Bay and
Woolacombe Sand (Beach) to bustling towns such as
Ilfracombe.
The AONB is home to one of the UK's prettiest and most popular villages at
Clovelly. We'd also thoroughly recommend
Mortehoe just to the north of
Woolacombe.
The
South West Coast Path runs along the coast and offers some of the finest coastal views in the
South West England, which is saying something.
